Anyone can design a space. We design the returnvisit. The second visit is the only review that counts.
We started Studio Swank in Austin with a habit we couldn’tshake: we noticed when rooms were trying too hard. Thebar with chairs no one wanted to sit in. The restaurant lit sodramatically you couldn’t read the menu. The lobby built fora press release and ignored by the guests it was for.Beautiful, sometimes. But you could feel the seams.
So we made one rule, and we have kept it: design for thesecond visit. A first visit is won by a pretty room. A secondis won by a room that worked and a room that worked isthe strategy, made physical. It is the brand you can walkinto. Strategy you can stand in.
